Lower stomach exercises are needed and can be effective. The lower stomach is one of the more difficult areas to burn fat. This is where fat starts to build up first. About Your Lower Stomach

You should first have an understanding about what is technically defined as your lower stomach area. The lower abdominal region starts beneath the navel. Everything that is above it is thought of as the upper abdominal region. Your lower stomach area can be a difficult place to get flat because there is more built up fat around this area than any other part of your stomach. You cannot use stomach exercise alone to flatten your lower stomach, you need the lose the excess fat your the result will be built up muscles that just push the extra fat that is around them farther out, this results in a worse appearance.

You lower stomach is where excess fat starts to build first. So naturally, it is the last place where you will lose it. This is the most challenging part of getting a flat stomach. Your lower stomach area can be toned so that the muscles don't sag and they better support the weight that is on them. This will make it look somewhat better, but you need to lose the extra fat around your lower stomach or you won't have a completely flat stomach.

Leg Raises

 

This is a very good exercise for toning the lower abdominal area. Try to do 3 sets with 10 to 20 reps in each.

  1.) Step One
Start by laying on your back and keep your hands and head on your mat, with your legs stretched out straight in front of you.
  2.) Step Two
Lift your legs off of the floor keeping them straight.
  3.) Step Three
Raise them at about a 45 degree angle off the floor.
  4.) Step Four
Slowly move both legs down (keeping them together and as straight as you can) until they are about a foot from the floor.
  5.) Step Five
Now raise them back up and begin again.
 

Reverse Curl

  1.) Step One
Lay on the ground and place your arms behind your head.
  2.) Step Two
Bend your legs at your knees so that your feet are firmly on the ground.
  3.) Step Three
Pull your knees up towards your stomach.
  4.) Step Four
Then slowly lower them back down, resting your feet on the floor. Repeat process.

Do your lower stomach exercises before your other ab exercises. Otherwise you will tire too much before being able to effectivley exercise your lower stomach.

Your lower stomach muscles are not the easiest place to exercise or tone, but it can be done with commitment and patience. Remember that it takes more than just exercise to get your lower abdominal muscles looking great. You need to first lose the fat that gathers and surrounds them.
