Exercising by itself can never be enough to help you to lose all the weight you want to. It's true that when you exercise you burn more calories than you normally would, but putting calories in is far easier than getting them out. You consume a certain number of calories every day. At the same time, you require a certain number of calories to be able to move around and do the things that you do every day. Think of calories as the energy or fuel that your body uses to operate. The problem you get into is when the number of calories that you take in is so much greater than what you use, then your body will store the excess where ever it can. And often times that place is your stomach!

Why Cardio Exercises?

So what you need to do first is to regulate your intake. You have to change your lifestyle to, first, decrease your intake and then to, second, increase your output. That is where cardio exercises come into play. Cardio exercise helps you to increase the rate that you burn calories in a given period of time. With sustained cardio activity your body will have to increase the rate that it burns fat in order to keep up with the demand you are giving it. Cardio exercise makes you much healthier as well.

The reason that cardio exercise helps you to burn fat far better than other exercises is that it gets your heart rate increased for a sustained period of time. When your heart is pumping faster, it's making the rest of your body keep up with it and you start increasing the energy (calories) that you are using. It is a good practice to get your heart rate increased every day. So if you can do 20 or so minutes every day of cardio exercise, that will get your heart rate increased for a couple of hours. So you may only be exercising for 20 minutes, you will be burning calories faster for much longer than that. But it has to be about 20 minutes of cardio before your heart rate actually increases to any important level of activity.

The key to this being effective is to get your body to look wherever if can for a new source of fuel. Once it has exhausted the new sources of energy that your body takes in through food, it will start to look throughout the rest of your body for a source. This means that it will tap into the reserves of fat that is stored on your body and will start breaking it down and consuming it as energy.

Which Cardio Exercises?

So which cardio exercises are most helpful to you? Well, what you are aiming for is something that will get you moving and your body going at a pace that it normally doesn't. The most obvious one would be running. When you run for a sustained amount of time, you really do feel your entire body going and your heart pumping quickly (especially if you don't run very often). So whether you start every day with a brisk jog, or just like to run in place in the comfort of your home, running is still probably the best, and easiest, cardio exercise. After that it would be any activity that gets your going. Whether it be swimming, bicycling, aerobics, elliptical machine, or what have you. Just get your heart going for an extended period of time!

Cardio Routine

A good routine is to do your cardio exercises in the morning when you start your day. this will allow you to start the day off right and get your heart going early. Whether it be a morning jog or just exercise in your own home, this way you can get it done early before you get too tired at the end of a day. It will only take you about 20 minutes and you can work it into your normal exercise routine. But you need to figure out what fits your schedule and lifestyle best.

We all have areas of our body that we consider the problem areas. If we could only focus on these areas alone, then we would be able to solve our 'problems' faster. But since it is not possible to target just a specific area of your body to lose fat, what is necessary is to involve yourself in a full body workout. This is where cardio exercises can be so helpful. You can help to burn off your excess stomach, and overall body, fat by getting your heart rate accelerated for extended periods of time and just being active and using more calories.

Final Thoughts

Cardio exercise won't solve all of your weight and fat problems by itself, but it is an important tool in your exercise routine because it makes you consume more calories and thereby make your body look elsewhere for a new source of energy. So if you regulate your intake of calories, your body will start looking at the fat that surrounds your stomach as that new source, and it will start to burn that fat right off your stomach and out of your life.
