Nowadays, eating disorders have become a common problem to many people. This is mainly because of eating junk foods, not taking food at the right time, etc. Many teenage girls suffer from this problem. Mental stress is said to be the main reason for this problem. Generally, teenage girls want to stay fit. For this purpose, they starve themselves in the name of following diet. Eating disorders can be a major detriment to a quality lifestyle and being healthy. Eating badly can also result in an eating disorder which includes under eating, eating too much, etc. Emotional eating may also result in an eating disorder. Eating disorder is defined as an effect of mental health. Eating disorder can also be defined as outward expression of internal pain and confusion.
There are three major types of eating disorders. They are anorexia, bulimia and binge-eating disorder. These three major types of eating disorders have their own cause. Avoiding food and eating too much instantly, is the first signs of anorexia, which forms the first category in the eating disorders. This may also result in obsession in body weight, shape, etc. As mentioned above, starving themselves on thinking about their weight and size is the symptom of anorexia. If this starving continues for a long term, it may often require hospitalization. Cessation periods in women, emotional eating, a powerful urge to overeat, unusual behavior of self-induced vomiting, fasting, excessive exercises are the major symptoms of anorexia.
Mostly, a large number of teenagers and women are the sufferers of this type of eating disorder. In the second category, known as bulimia, people usually maintain their weight well. But, this type of people has the fear of gaining weight. Some people of this category have the habit of chewing and spitting the food rather than swallowing. These behaviors of certain people are weird. Thirdly, binge-eating disorder is defined as mental illness. This type of eating disorder can be easily identified. This category of people generally will lose control on eating and begin to overeat. This is one of the good signs of binge- eating. Low self – esteem may also be a cause of eating disorder. A desirable percentage of men also suffer from this problem. Some sexual reasons are also said to be the primary factors of eating disorder. If a person suffers from one of the above mentioned symptoms, the person is said to have one of these three categories of eating disorder. But still there is a hope to treat it, if diagnosed properly.
One of the biggest problems many people experience when trying to manage their weight is controlling cravings. These cravings usually vary between different people; one person may crave chocolate, another person might desire potato chips, and you might crave ice cream. Most commonly, these food will satisfy some fundamental desire of the person craving them; they might be greasy or creamy, or perhaps they’re salty, or they might simply be associated with good memories from childhood- for example, someone else might have a particular desire for Cracker Jack popcorn because they remember it from the baseball games of their childhood. One particularly good method of controlling cravings is to identify what gives rise to them. Many people crave favorite foods from their childhood to address issues of insecurity or being placed in an unusual situation or such things which have nothing to do at all with the act of gaining calories by eating the food. In that case, it is better to address the underlying issues.
Another particularly good method is to address why those foods are desired. For example, someone else might crave a cool glass of Coke with ice when really, their body is just screaming out for hydration and a cool glass of tap water would be just as satisfying. Another good method is deflecting the urges. For example, perhaps you’ve been craving something sweet all day. Instead of giving in and eating half a cheesecake, it would be better to deflect that urge and eat something that’s still sweet, but healthy, like a big slice of watermelon, instead. Another terrific method I would like to suggest is using a lower-calorie substitute. For example, if you’re craving chocolate, instead of having a slice of devil’s food cake, have a dark chocolate granita made with no added sugar. It will still satisfy the craving for chocolate, but in a much less caloric manner.
My favorite method is to make whatever I am craving from scratch. If I want a chocolate cake, and nothing is going to stand in my way, then it means that I have to haul myself out to the grocery store and pick up eggs and milk, beat it together with flour and cocoa powder, add the baking soda, notice precisely how much sugar I’m adding, and so forth. Not only does this mean I really only satisfy the worst cravings I have, but it means I can only satisfy a few cravings and not that many cravings at a time. And by the time I’ve finished with the cake, I can probably afford to have a slightly bigger slice than if I had just gone out and bought some from the bakery.
It is not necessary to go the gym every day to lose weight. Apart from being expensive it can also be very tedious. Many people are mistaken that it is necessary to do vigorous exercise every day in order to lose weight. This is not the case. A number of studies have indicated that people who over exercise actually over eat. They often over estimate how much calories they have actually worked off during the session. Obesity in America has become a huge issue over recent years. There are a lot of factors that contribute to this. Some of these reasons include lack of education, poor food choices and lack of motivation. When people want to lose weight or begin a diet, they try asking a lot of questions about how to lose the extra body fat they have. That is why people feel that they hit a wall after drinking soda, because suddenly they will have low blood sugar levels, causing them to feel groggy and down. A soda really does not have any nutritional value for a person. That means that there are no vitamins or minerals that are healthy for your body in soda. That means all the drink can do is make you gain weight, which is a reason why those who drink soda on a daily basis can have weight issues.
One other problem with soda is that it is acidic and can cause damage to the enamel in your teeth. Enamel helps protect your teeth, and once it is gone it cannot come back. That means your teeth are more likely to get cavities and rot since there is less protection for the teeth. As stated above, soda has caffeine in it. Some people will drink soda all day, and that means that they will have a steady source of caffeine in their body. That means they can have trouble sleeping, which means they are not going to feel rested at work or school the next day. You also will not be giving your body the time it needs to repair from the day before, so you will have problems functioning. Caffeine is also a diuretic, which means it makes you have to pee. Since you are not replenishing the water your body is expelling because you are drinking soda, your body will become dehydrated. All of these reasons are proof that soda is bad for you.
Dairy products don’t have to be avoided if you are trying to lose weight. There are many choices on the market which are very healthy choices with dairy products. Skim milk and other forms of milk such as soy milk can be very beneficial while trying to lose weight. Dairy products contain a great amount of calcium and they are important to any diet. Yogurt is often a great choice for snacks when trying to lose weight. Don’t just buy any yogurt though. Make sure you do a little research and read the label! Go for the low fat cottage cheese as well. Fat free cream cheese also tastes surprisingly similar to cream cheeses with all the fat. Dairy has been shown in studies to help you lose more weight. Dairy products are high in calcium which is believed to help suppress a hormone called calcitriol. Calcitriol is a hormone which makes fat cells bigger.
Calcium rich dairy products also help you get a good amount of protein which can help your you feel fuller. Eating low fat dairy products a few times a day will help you, not hinder you with your weight loss. Basically avoiding the high fat dairy products and choosing low or no fat dairy products will help you along your healthy weight loss path. These fats also bring down the level of good cholesterol in our body. i.e., these trans-fats have the risk of bringing down the level of HDL cholesterol in our body. So, the consumption of these trans-fats has the higher risk of coronary heart diseases. Trans-fats are not only harmful to the adults, but also these fats are equally harmful to the children. Especially, for women, because trans-fats double the risk of heart diseases for women compared to men. Tran-fats also spoil the blood levels by raising harmful lipids and bringing down the necessary good lipids. This results in the blockage in the artery and prevents the blood from flowing through them and thereby increases the risk of coronary heart disease. These trans-fats are also very harmful to the people above 65 years of age, by decreasing the cognitive levels in the brain.
